Job Description :


  • Permanent position for a Civil Engineer - Construction Manager / Constrution Inspection for Heavy construction including structural concrete, asphalt paving, underground utility installation and relocations.

  • Inspect and manage contractors field operations and direct contractors to resolve field deficiencies.

  • Reporting to the Resident Engineer, the Engineer will be required to have full knowledge and familiarity with contract documents, ensure that construction work is performed in accordance with contract drawings, specifications and all applicable codes and standards, ensure that construction is performed in a safe manner and completed on schedule.

  • Review and evaluate potential items of extra work, provide justification and cost estimate, comment on and approve quantities of work in place for payment applications in a timely fashion.

  • Complete daily narratives, sign off on T&M sheets on a daily basis and track T&M Billings.

  • Write PACC's and complete construction estimates, and special inspection reports.

  • Schedule and conduct site inspections as required, attend progress meetings and final inspections and prepare meeting minutes.

  • Perform constructability reviews for future contracts, provide meaningful comments on drawings and specifications by specified dates.

  • Coordinate construction work with facility police, maintenance and operations to ensure that contracts are completed with minimum disruption to the facility. Recognize unsafe contractor operations and have the ability to address those unsafe conditions immediately.

  • Night and weekend shifts may be required.


Required Qualifications :


  • BS Civil Engineering or a NICET Level III will be considered if evidence of significant field inspection experience.

  • Minimum 10 years experience in progressively more difficult and responsible construction management and inspection. Varied in: Size (projects ranging from $500K to $10 million plus) and complexity (multiple crews and crew sizes per shift).

  • Valid Driver's License required with own car.

  • Some OSHA training required. Special Inspector qualifications in Concrete, Masonry certification preferred.

  • Confined Space certification required.

  • Familiarity with NYC Building Code, ACI, ASTM, AISC Bolting, Masonry, Concrete and Work Zone Safety Certifications.

  • Marine Experience a plus, including pile repairs, bulkhead and pier construction. Some mechanical, civil, structural and plumbing knowledge is beneficial.

  • Night and weekend shifts may be required.
